Flame and Citron, Denmark, 2008

One of the gold standard settings for cinematic storytelling, World War II continually finds itself in the territory of overuse. In the last 9 months there have been more than 5 films dealing with the war itself (Valkyrie, Defiance) and its surrounding horrors (The Reader). What sets apart Ole Maddsen's third feature is its moral ambiguity about the conflict itself and whether fighting is of any difference or consequence. Flame and Citron is a look into the Danish resistance in 1940's Copenhagen

A late New Year's resolution

Shortly before the end of last I decided that I too would join the hordes and masses and begin a blog. Now, just a short 8 months since that time, I'm finally beginning to get around to it.
